New Sombra Championship skin for the Shanghai Dragons + the last New Blood Comic released!

Team 4 at Blizzard, the ones in charge of making Overwatch and Overwatch content, have been busy last week! Not only did we get a new Championship skin for the Shanghai Dragons in Sombra’s Zhulong skin (which looks awesome, by the way), but we also got a video showing the making-of the Championship skin and, to top it off, we got the last issue of Cassidy’s comic series New Blood, featuring Hana “D.va” Song this time. Seems like the content department in the Overwatch team has been quite busy! The Shanghai Dragon’s Championship skin will be on sale between March 15th and the 28th.

Paris and Horizon Lunar Colony have been removed from the Quick Play map pool (and similar ones)

If your week wasn’t good enough, with all the Overwatch 2 news, the Closed Beta happening late April and new skins, comics, and all of the hype for Overwatch League, there is even more good news: Paris and Horizon Lunar Colony have been removed from the Quick Play map pool, as well as other similar ones. This is likely for two reasons, the first being in preparation for the complete removal of the Assault (2CP) mode that will likely happen in Overwatch 2, as well as the fact that very few people in the community enjoyed those maps, in particular Paris, with hoards of players leaving the game and willing to endure a new queue over having to play it. However, it is likely that we will see more of them in the future, possibly as PvE locations! On top of that, they seem to have also fixed the annoying mic issue that had been plaguing in-game communications. Hurray!

After he was banned for an unknown reason in June, 2020, Dr. Disrespect started a legal dispute against Twitch as, according to him, the company never explained to him the reason for his ban. However, he decided to move on to YouTube Gaming soon after, and the matter seemed to stall in court until a recent tweet from Dr. Disrespect himself where he stated that he has “resolved his legal dispute with Twitch,” and that “no party admits to any wrongdoing.” In another post made later that day, he confirmed that he will not be returning to Twitch.

The Wolf Bowl VALORANT Tournament -with the sponsoring of Jordan Belfort- has been announced

Brag House has teamed up with Jordan Belfort, the “Wolf of Wall Street” American entrepreneur as famously portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio. Belfort has started to get involved in esports, and his first step was partnering with Brag House to create the Wolf Bowl - a VALORANT tournament where 16 collegiate teams will compete for the chance to “Live like a Wolf” for a weekend. They will also earn a physical and/or virtual trophy. Belfort stated that “The reason I originally got involved with Brag House and was so excited about it was the sheer power of the vision that Lavell and his team had created, in as much as taking what they had created in the US, at the college level, all over the world.”

Arcane dominated the Annie Awards

The Annie Awards, which are granted to the best animations, have been dominated by the hugely successful League of Legends series Arcane this year - winning a total of nine awards out of the nine nominations it had. Including the awards are the Best TV/Media for General Audiences (for “When These Walls  Come Tumbling Down”), the Best Character Animation in TV/Media (for “The Monster You Created”), the Best Character Design in TV/Media (for “Some Mysteries Better Left Unsolved”) the Best Direction in TV/Media (for “The Monster You Created”), the Best Production Design in TV/Media ( for“Happy Progress Day!”), the Best Storyboarding in TV/Media ( for“When These Walls Come Tumbling Down”), the Best Voice Acting in TV/Media (given to Ella Purnell who played Jinx in “When These Walls Come Tumbling Down”) and the Best Writing in TV/Media (for “The Monster You Created”). The series has been such a huge success that it comes as no surprise that Riot announced that they have made a major investment in the studio that animated the show, Fortiche Production. “Fortiche has been an integral partner for a long time, but this agreement ensures we’ll be working closely for decades to come,” said Nicolo Laurent, CEO of Riot.
